During February and March 2007 a total of 35 people participated in an Amur leopard count in SW Primorye in Russia. Leopard tracks in the snow were recorded along 158 designated routes with a total length of 1,600 ΠΊΠΌ. WCS, WWF and the local Institute of Biology and Soils conducted the count with funds provided by WCS and WWF. The count resulted in a population estimate of 25-34 leopards, 7-9 mature males, including 6-8 leopards of undetermined sex, 3-7 females without cubs, and 4 females with a total of 5-6 cubs. The results were approximately the same as the results of the previous snow-track count in 2003.

One participant in the count saw a leopard and managed to photograph it. This is the first photo made of an Amur leopard during an encounter in the forest. All previous photos were made from hides with use of bait or by automatic camera-traps.
